We carry on with Targets and Images and then discuss Organisational Settings

23rd September
No class due to the ‘Semaine de l’Etudiant’. We meet on the 7th October.
Please prepare for the next class by reading the lecture notes on Organisational Settings. Also complete the following MCQ and bring your answers to class for discussion: MCQ from Cutlip

7th October
We discuss notes on Organisational Settings and your answers to the MCQ. If we have time, we will also discuss the following notes on Publics and Models.

21st October
Lecture/discussion on Planning PR.

4th November
We carry on with the lecture on Planning PR then we will discuss the notes on Press Relations.

18th November
Last session for the semester. We carry on with lectures notes on Press Relations. Then, we discuss the exercise which was given in class on Press Relations. We will also discuss an assignment for the holiday break.
After this session, we will meet again on 20th January. But do check this space regularly and use the comments section for any questions you may have during holidays.

20th January
Happy New Year 2012 to all of you!
We resume with a roundup of the assignments which are due for the start of semester, i.e. analysis of an existing company + press release write-up.

3rd February
Oral presentations.
All teams should be present on time for the drawing of lots to determine order of presentations. Presentations should not exceed 15 minutes per team. There will be a laptop and RGB for slides (do not prepare too many slides and do not overload your slides).
Note that there will be two sets of marks: a collective mark for the content and an individual mark for each student for oral performance.
Content should include basic information about the company you have chosen + an informed critical analysis as discussed in class. Note that you should not prepare fully written notes, only key words and phrases to guide you if needed. Oral performance assessment will include voice level, rhythm, intonation, body language and gestures, eye contact, etc.
All students should pay attention to their classmates’ presentations (i.e. no chatting or preparation for your own presentation) and be prepared to asks questions too during the Q&A.

17th February
Oral presentations which were postponed last time are scheduled for 17th February (refer to above instructions)
Also note that I gave an exercise last time: Case Study on CSR from the Times 100 website. Please make sure you complete it for discussion.

23rd February
Due to Maha Shivaratree pilgrimage, the presentations are now scheduled for Thursday 23rd February from 12.00 to 15.00 in room 1.3 Engineering Tower.
Please make it a must to arrive on time.

1st March
We carry on with the oral presentations. Then, lecture on Corporate Social Responsibility. Bring your answers to the Amway case study.

16th March
Lecture/discussion on Crisis PR Management
Instructions were given in class about the forthcoming assignment.For next session on 30th March, all teams have to come with the following information:
– Team composition
– Organisation chosen
– Crisis organisation has been through (and coverage received)
– Fictitious crisis episode for the mock press conference

In a nutshell, you will have to invent a new episode to the crisis such that the teams will have to do a mock press conference in front of the class to present the organisation’s position and actions. Students will be assessed on the quality of their press conference (including ability to answer questions from the floor) as well as on their participation and questions to other teams.

Also note that students will be assessed for their participation as journalists while their classmates are presenting, i.e. you will all be expected to ask tough questions to the other teams.

The mock press conference is scheduled for the 13th April. There will be drawing of lots as usual to determine order of presentation. All students should arrive on time, i.e. 9 a.m. Each team will have maximum 15 minutes (max 10 mins for presenting and 5 mins for Q&A).

30th March

All teams have to come with the following information for the mock press conference scheduled on 13th April:

– Organisation chosen
– Crisis organisation has been through (and coverage received)
– Fictitious crisis episode for the mock press conference

    Crisis KFC has been through: Bacteria Salmonela found in tons of seized chicken.

    Fictitious crisis: KFC is being threatened with a boycott by Muslims in Mauritius since they have unknowingly consumed food which are not halal for years now.
